It’s that time again: This weekend, from Friday to Sunday, the Austrian men’s elite, the youth and juniors (U15-U23), as well as master athletes will compete at the Austrian National Championships on the platform.
“For the first time 118 athletes, including the masters, are registered. In addition, 14 femaile participants are competing in the masters category and that is really great by our standards,” says a pleased OÖGV press officer Konrad Högg.
The start of the Austrian National Championships will be made on Friday by the Masters. The battle between Johann Anglberger and Johann Schöberl, who both have their sights set on the gold medal, will be particularly exciting. On Saturday, however, the spectators will get the full program. In addition to the lifters in the weight category up to 55 kg, the athletes in the category over 109 kg will also demonstrate their skills.
An exciting competition on the second day of the Austrian championships will probably coming up in the weight category up to 67 kg between 31-year-old Arnel Bekric (Baden) and 16-year-old Jonas Klinger from SK VÖEST Linz. Last year’s winner, 17-year-old Luca Modrey, will compete in the 73 kg weight class. The bronze medalist of the European Championships Sargis Martirosjan is lifting in the +109kg class. He has lifted 172 kg in the snatch in Tirana, Albania, and thus finished third.
On the last and third competition day, probably the most exciting competitions and battles are expected. Especially the competition of the up to 81 kg class is eagerly awaited, which will take place at the end of the day after the competition of the women’s masters and the category up to 89 kg. “The top competition of the weekend will certainly be between Hmayak Misakyan (VÖEST Linz) and Dominik Certov (Vösendorf). Misakyan recently managed 136 kg in the snatch and 157 kg in the clean and jerk at the European Championships, but his best performances are even 145 kg and 170 kg. But Certov has also developed strongly, he can also be expected to reach 137 kg in the snatch and 170 kg in the clean and jerk,” said Högg.

Certov won the title in the 81 kg weight class last year and will try to defend it against the Obrigheim lifter Misakyan on Sunday in Linz.
